Saved art

Today walking along the Walk of the Meadow of Madrid, opposite to the Prado Museum I have seen an interesting outdoor exposure: "Saved art”.

“Saved art”. there is an exhibition that commemorates 70 an anniversary of the rescue of the Spanish artistic patrimony during the civil war. A rescue that was possible thanks to the International Committee for the Rescue of the Treasures of Spanish Art, formed by the principal institutions museísticas of the western democratic countries that had negotiated with the Government of the Republic the evacuation of the works of art. The signature of the Agreement of Figueras on February 3, 1939 made possible the rescue of the artistic patrimony.

The saved artistic patrimony realized a long journey from Madrid to Valencia first and later to Barcelona up to coming to his definitive destination, in the Palace of the Nations of Geneva (Switzerland). More than seventy trucks transported the artistic patrimony in a few moments in which the war was especially intense and when thousands of Spanish were crossing the Pyrenees to finish in the refugee camps of France.

The exhibition can be seen in Madrid even on March 21 and later it will cover the cities of the long journey, in Valencia it will be between April and May, in Barcelona between June and July and in Figueras between August and September, 2010.

Now when the time seems that it is going to give a breather, one is worth going for a walk for the walk of the Meadow of Madrid and seeing the exhibition and especially buying an interesting catalog to only 3 euros.

Health, Republic and Socialism.
